The Heart of Christmas: Coit Morrison’s Story

For Coit Morrison, giving has never been about recognition; it has always been about allowing God to work through him for the good of others. His story stretches across denominations, ministries, and generations of young men who were shaped because Coit chose to show up, offer his gifts, and serve.

Coit didn’t grow up in Brigade. As a boy, he found his place in Scouting, long before he knew Christ. It wasn’t until age eighteen, when a friend invited him to a revival service, that his life changed forever. He walked in a teenage skeptic and walked out a young man saved by grace.

That new faith grew quickly into action. He started serving, and when life moved him to a new community, he didn’t miss a beat. In 1978, he sought a way to continue investing in young men, and God opened a new door. Through his friend, Norm Ducharme, Coit was introduced to Christian Service Brigade at Old First Church, Unit 2365.

That first year, he jumped in as a lieutenant, but it didn’t take long before his leadership and motivation to see boys grow in their faith propelled him into the role of captain. And like everything Coit does, he gave himself fully.

Over the next few years, he helped start multiple Brigade units, including a new group at Grace Chapel and later Unit 2733 at Hope Fellowship. Everywhere he went, he brought Brigade with him not because he was obligated, but because giving to young men had become part of who he was.

As Coit nears 70, his dedication to shaping boys into godly men has only strengthened. He wholeheartedly believes that the programming of Christian Service Brigade provides the perfect framework and resources to make that transformation possible. When he was asked to help with the development of the Herald of Christ for Men (HoC for Men), he didn’t want to help from a distance. The HoC for Men is an award that recognizes a man whose journey is marked by obedience, humility, and faithful service to the Lord and others. If he was going to encourage others to pursue it, he felt he needed to set the example himself. He sought to understand the process, refine it, and give it his very best.

His service reminds us that God’s greatest work often happens through people who simply say, “Use me.” Coit’s legacy continues to multiply through Brigade and through every boy who grew into a man because someone like Coit showed them the way.

Last month, Coit earned his own Herald of Christ for Men, a fitting milestone for a man who has quietly lived its values for years.

Coit gives through his leadership.

He gives through his time.

He gives through his financial support.

He gives through every young man he has mentored, prayed for, and believed in.

His service reminds us that God’s greatest work often happens through people who simply say, “Use me.” Coit’s legacy continues to multiply through Brigade and through every boy who grew into a man because someone like Coit showed them the way.
