How do we make the most of promoting the event?
While pulpit announcements and flyers help, attendance soars when men invite other men directly. A flyer handed over with a personal word makes all the difference.
Engage wives and mothers early. Once mothers catch the vision of equipping husbands to build lasting, faith-based relationships with their kids, they become your strongest advocates. As one men’s ministry leader noted, “She will move heaven and earth to get her husband and child there.”
What measures should we take for the children’s safety and protection?
Our morning schedule is thoughtfully structured so that a child is never alone with a single adult. Similarly, afternoon activities must be planned so that fathers and children remain in clear view of others at all times.
The Adventure Coordinator must ensure that all travel to and from the afternoon venue fully complies with your church’s child safety policies.
How do we recruit men to be the mentors to boys attending without a dad or a substitute approved by the mother?
Recruit mentors intentionally rather than through public announcements.
Prayerfully identify mature Christian men without children in the target age group and invite them personally. Explain the vision of Adventure Day and why you believe they are a good match for a boy needing a father figure. You can also consult the child’s mother for recommendations. As always, ensure every appointed mentor satisfies your church’s child protection requirements.
What about the safety and protection of the children attending?
Child safety is our highest priority. Your leadership team must adhere strictly to your church’s child protection policies and satisfy all state, provincial, and legal requirements, including background checks and police clearances, for everyone involved.
What about fathers who will want this experience with daughters?
Every child benefits greatly from quality time with their father. Elementary-aged girls enjoy the Adventure Day activities just as much as boys, making a Father/Daughter Adventure Day a wonderful opportunity for dads to connect and build meaningful relationships with their daughters.
What will the cost be for each additional child?
Multi-child discounts are left to the host church’s discretion. Regardless of pricing, be sure to order enough Adventure Booklets and Adventure Trading Cards so that every participating child receives their own.
What if a dad has more than one child he wishes to bring?
Fathers are welcome to attend with more than one child. We recommend inviting an additional adult male (a grandfather, uncle, or family friend) to join them. In this setup, the father can pair with one child in the morning and switch with the other for the afternoon.
When ordering materials through The Brigade Shop, be sure to include the total number of children participating so everyone receives an Adventure Booklet and set of Adventure Trading Cards. Each mentor needs only one Game Plan, but every attending child requires their own booklet and cards. Note that additional booklets and trading cards can also be purchased separately.
